Safety is super important! I can’t be said too many times – take caution! It is highly recommended that you take the Epoxy Course, but they are only offered twice a year at DTU, unfortunately. Let’s go through the important basics.
Always wear protective gear when your are in the lab. Assume that every surface is contaminated, even if it isn’t. Do not put your stuff ie. your bag in the lab. It will most likely get contaminated and you will carry that around. This pose as a health hazard to you and to others as you spread chemicals. Leaving stuff around also increase the risk of injury ie. tripping over your bag and spilling chemicals.
If exposed to any chemical rinse thoroughly with COLD water. Also wash hands and forearms after working in the lab – even if gloves and coat has been worn.
The isopropanol is highly explosive and has a flash point at 12 degrees celsius. The aerosols and direct contact to the skin are potential damaging to the central nervous system and may cause irritations.
Photopolymeres contains isocaynates which may cause eczema or allergies under short exposure time and even the risk of cancer under long exposure time.
The danish system “R- og S-sætninger” is a part of the UN’s harmonized classification of chemicals. Any chemical must show visible symbols and information. They are available here in danish and here in english.
The lab is not considered a storage room for chemicals. Used chemicals must be disposed of via the head of chemical waste disposal.
